Ruler Quilting Basics: A 4-Class Technique Series with Westalee Rulers
For Beginners & Those Looking to Refresh Their Skills
Class Overview:
This 4-part technique-based series is designed for the beginner ruler quilter or the experienced quilter who wants to brush up on their techniques and explore new design possibilities. Whether you quilt on a domestic machine, sit-down longarm, or longarm, the ruler techniques taught in this series will apply to all.
We’ll start at the very beginning—no assumptions made! You’ll learn:
- What a ruler foot is and how to use it
- How to set up your machine and workspace for success
- How to read ruler markings, hold the rulers properly, and achieve accurate results
- How to draw and practice designs on paper using Stitching Line Discs before moving to your machine
Each session will show you how to get the most out of your rulers—not just one design per ruler, but multiple creative applications. Learn how to:
- Enhance pieced blocks and borders
- Choose the right rulers for filling negative space
- Expand your ruler’s potential with repeatable, versatile design strategies
Required:
- Basic free motion quilting knowledge
- Westalee rulers (must be preordered at least 4 weeks prior to class)
- A sewing machine with a compatible ruler foot
- Full supply list will be provided
